The Department of Economics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka has proved her mettle again as a trail blazer among other Departments. This time around, the leadership and Alumni members of the Department (NESA 2001 Set) have again restored the dignity of the Department by ensuring that the environment and the structure of the Ansah Goldie building is given a fresh touch to enhance its beauty and ambience.
On Thursday, 24th February, 2022 after a Courtesy Visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Arizechukwu Charles Igwe, by the Staff, Students, Alumni members and friends of the Department, the Vice Chancellor proceeded to the Department of Economics to commission the Asphalting, the repainting and the beautification of the Department.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Igwe, applauded the Head, Department of Economics, Dr. Emma Nwosu, for his great strides, intellectually and administratively. He pointed out that despite the recent economic challenges in our Nation, Dr. Emma Nwosu took it upon himself to source for funds outside the University Community and utilized the funds judiciously to give Economics Department a new facelift.
The Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the University Community, also appreciated the Alumni members, especially the Economics Class of 2001, who remembered their roots and contributed to the beautification of the Department that modelled them. He also expressed gratitude to the Staff (Academic and Non-academic) that are working tirelessly with the Head of Department to promote the image of the Department and the University at large.
Dr. Emma Nwosu, the Head of Department, in his response, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for being an enabler of growth, stating that the Alumni members responded because of his good deeds in the University. Dr. Emma also appreciated the Alumni members for answering his call and responding positively to his appeal. He further assured them that the Department will continue to stand out and they will always be proud of their Alma mater anytime, anyday!
After the photo sessions, everyone present at the commissioning proceeded to Head of Department’s office for refreshments and to exchange pleasantries with the Alumni members and Staff members.
Finally, on behalf of the Students, the President of the Nigerian Economics Students’ Association (NESA) UNN, Chinonso Ezenabo, appreciated the resourceful Head of Department, whom he described as a Student-friendly Head, who has the interest of the students at heart. He also, on behalf of the students, appreciated the Alumni Members for their relentless efforts at ensuring that they gave back to the Department that modelled them. He used this opportunity to appeal to the students to maintain the newly repainted edifice for the present and future generations. Other Senior Academics that graced the commissioning include, Prof J. Urama (DVC Academic), Prof. T.C. Nzeadibe (Dean FSS), Prof. C.C. Agu, Prof. I. S. Madueme, the two NESA Staff Advisers, Dr. Tony Orji and Dr. Jonathan Ogbuabor among other staff members.
